5500 F Fast Set PolyUrea/Polyaspartic

5500 F Fast Set is an 85% solids, two-component, aliphatic polyurea/aspartic amine blend designed for:

  • Clear or pigmented elastomeric finishes.
  • High gloss, high build coatings with excellent elongation and impact resistance.
  • Use as a durable topcoat in ASTC flooring systems.
  • USDA compliance for incidental food contact.

Unique Characteristics

  • Ease of Use: Extended working time for efficient application.
  • Durability: High build with excellent stain, abrasion, and chemical resistance.
  • Customization: Tintable with ASTC pigment packs and available in low-odor versions.
  • Non-Skid Options: Incorporates ASTC’s “SSR” aggregate for added safety.

Advantages

  • UV stable and non-yellowing.
  • Resistant to plasticizer migration from tires.
  • Excellent adhesion to concrete and existing coatings.
  • Waterproof and elastomeric properties.
  • Quick turnaround for high-traffic areas.

Applications

5500 F Fast Set is suitable for:

  • Decorative concrete floor finishes.
  • Industrial, commercial, and residential floor coatings.
  • Clear topcoats for color chips and quartz.
  • Kitchen floors, slabs, stairs, and pedestrian walkways.
  • Exterior applications requiring UV stability.

Preparation

  1. Concrete Curing: Ensure a minimum 28-day cure.
  2. Surface Cleaning: Remove all contaminants, such as oils, wax, and curing agents.
  3. Profile Creation: Abrade the surface to create a rough profile (2-3 mils).
  4. Moisture Testing: Ensure moisture vapor transmission (MVT) does not exceed 3 lbs per 1,000 sq ft per 24 hours.

Priming

  • Self-Priming: Can be applied directly to concrete.
  • Optional Primers: Use ASTC’s 6000 Series Epoxy Primer, 70001 Pen Prime, or 8000 CMW for enhanced performance.

Application

  1. Mixing:
    • Combine parts A and B at a 1:1 ratio using a jiffy mixer.
    • Mix for 1-2 minutes without incorporating air.
  2. Coating:
    • Apply using a notched squeegee and back-roll with a 1/4”-3/8” nap roller.
    • Maintain thin coats of 5-10 mils for optimal results.
  3. Recoat Timing:
    • Recoat within 1-2 hours or after light sanding if exceeded.
