8000 CMW Potassium Silicate Moisture Vapor Barrier: Vapor Drive Reduction and Densifying for Concrete
Uses
- Moisture vapor barrier treatment for concrete prior to ASTC polyurea, polyaspartic, urethane and epoxy coatings (“systems approach”)
- Pre-treatment of control and expansion joints to reduce moisture vapor pressure on joint fillers (3003, 3004, 3246)
- Efflorescence treatment where white powder-like material on the slab indicates moisture vapor drive
- Densifying and sealing of concrete, vertical or horizontal, interior and exterior
- Reducing concrete out-gassing and pinholes under fast-set polyurea spray systems
Unique Properties
- Potassium Silicate Chemistry: potassium moisture vapor barrier; sodium and lithium silicate versions are available upon request.
- Single Component: no mixing ratio – applied as supplied.
- Vapor Drive Reducer / Densifier: reduces moisture vapor drive and pressure and densifies the slab before coating or joint filling.
- Systems Approach: designed to be used with the 7001 PenPrime primer and ASTC polyurea, polyaspartic, urethane and epoxy coatings.

Preparation
- Concrete must have a minimum 28-day cure. Remove any curing agent, form release materials, oils, wax or any material that may affect penetration and bonding.
- Perform a Moisture Vapor Test (ASTM F1869) before coating. Where Moisture Vapor Transmission exceeds 3 lbs per 1,000 sq ft per 24 hours, use CMW and/or the 6007 Nova Bar epoxy primer rated up to 18 lbs.
Application
- Single component – apply as supplied per the CMW data sheet prior to the application of the primer and coating.
- Prime with 7001 PenPrime and apply the polyurea, polyaspartic or epoxy system per the product instructions.

Limitations
- Store at room temperature out of direct sunlight.

- Single component. Sold in 1, 5 and 55 gallon units.
- Sodium and lithium silicate versions available upon request.
