Applications
The 6009 1:1 Epoxy Primer is suitable for:
- Garage floor installations and base coat for flake and colored quartz applications.
- Industrial, commercial and residential floor coating; kitchen floors; solid color finishes.
- Concrete slabs, stairs and pedestrian walkways; warehouse floors; containment areas.
Preparation
- Surface Preparation: ensure a minimum 28-day concrete cure. Remove contaminants like oils, wax, curing agents and old coatings. Perform a moisture vapor test.
- Clean by abrasive “brush off” blast and provide a rough profile of at least 2 mils (ASTM D4259, ASTM F1869). Seal / repair bug holes, cracks and spalls (830, 4034, 3004) and prime over filled cracks. Do not apply to floors that do not have a pH of 7-8.5.
- Priming: use 6000 Series epoxy primers, 7001 Pen Prime or 8000 CMW as required. Above 3 lbs MVT use the 6007 Nova Bar epoxy primer rated up to 18 lbs.
Mixing and Application
- Mixing: use a jiffy mixer with a 450 rpm drill motor. Mix components A and B at a 1:1 ratio for 2–3 minutes, adding B into A while mixing and avoiding air entrapment. Transfer to a second clean pail, remix for a minute, then pour out, squeegee and back-roll. Do not let mixed product remain in the container. Stick/hand mixing not recommended.
- Application: application range 35°F to 125°F. Apply with a notched squeegee and back-roll with a 3/8” to 1/2” nap roller in films of 8 to 10 mils per coat (not thinner than 8 mils). Recoat within 8-10 hours or as soon as the first coat can be walked on; if the recoat window is exceeded, sand lightly, wipe with acetone and re-coat.
- Cure: dry to touch 2-8 hrs; light foot traffic 24 hrs; place items 24-48 hrs; vehicle traffic 72 hrs; full cure 5-7 days.
Environmental Considerations
- Cold Conditions: below 50°F the cure slows – use the fast set or extra fast version.
- Hot Conditions: above 85°F the epoxy cures quicker, especially with high humidity – mix only what you can use in 15-20 minutes and never leave kits mixed in mass.
Limitations
- Avoid application on wet surfaces or standing water; damp areas are primed with the 6012 F moisture tolerant fast set primer.
- Resistant to most tires, however some tires (plasticizer migration) may stain the coating.
- Store product on wood pallets at room temperature and out of direct sunlight. For professional use only – refer to the MSDS before application.
- Mix ratio 1A:1B. Sold in 2, 10 and 110 gallon units.
