Epoxy Vapor Barrier System: Durable Protection for Green and Damp Concrete

  • INDUSTRIAL, COMMERCIAL AND RESIDENTIAL FLOOR COATING
  • KITCHEN FLOOR SEALING & FINISHING
  • SLABS, STAIRS & PEDESTRIAN WALKWAYS
  • All INTERIOR APPLICATIONS ( Non UV Stable )
  • APPLIED IN DAMP & WET CONDITIONS PROVIDES PROTECTIVE ATTRACTIVE COLOR COAT EPOXY FLOORING SYSTEM
  • BASE COAT FOR SECONDARY CONTAINMENT COATINGS IN DAMP CONDITIONS
Product Description

This epoxy vapor barrier system is a high-performance solution designed to protect against moisture-related issues in both green and damp concrete. Engineered to create a durable, impermeable layer, it effectively blocks vapor transmission, preventing damage to coatings, adhesives, or flooring systems applied on top. Its advanced formulation ensures strong adhesion to freshly poured or damp concrete, making it ideal for fast-track projects and environments with high humidity or moisture exposure. Easy to apply and long-lasting, this system safeguards surfaces while promoting a stable and reliable foundation for subsequent coatings or finishes.

Unique Characteristics

  • Outstanding adhesion to wet concrete and steel.
  • Smooth, glossy, tack-free cured finish.
  • Exceptional corrosion protection.
  • Moisture-blocking primer rated at 15-18 psi.
  • Temperature range: 35°F to 125°F (air and surface) and 5°F above the dew point.

Advantages

  • 100% solids for durable performance.
  • Cures to a clear, cross-linking finish.
  • High stain resistance to most tires (plasticizer migration).
  • Exceptional chemical and corrosion resistance.
  • Excellent abrasion resistance.
  • Highly adhesive with a bond strength of 520 psi.
  • Mild odor, making it suitable for interior applications.

Applications

  • Decorative concrete floor finishes.
  • Industrial, commercial, and residential floor coatings.
  • Kitchen floor sealing and finishing.
  • Slabs, stairs, and pedestrian walkways.
  • Base coat for secondary containment coatings.
  • Protective and attractive color coatings for damp and wet conditions.

Preparation

  1. Concrete Curing: Ensure a minimum 28-day cure.
  2. Surface Cleaning: Remove contaminants, curing agents, and old coatings.
  3. Profile Creation: Abrade the surface to create a rough profile of at least 2-3 mils (ASTM D4259).
  4. Moisture Testing: Conduct a moisture vapor test before application.

Priming

  • Self-Priming: Directly adheres to concrete.
  • Compatible with 6000 Series Epoxy Primers, 70001 Pen Prime, and 8000 CMW.

Moisture Vapor Reduction

  • Use ASTC’s CMW to reduce moisture vapor drive.
  • Suitable for substrates with moisture vapor transmission rates of up to 3 lbs/1,000 sq ft/24 hrs.
  • For higher vapor levels (up to 18 psi), use 6007 Nova Bar Epoxy Primer.

Application Guidelines

  1. Mixing:
    • Mix parts A and B using a jiffy mixer and drill motor.
    • Avoid entrapping air and ensure complete mixing.
  2. Coating:
    • Apply with a notched squeegee and back-roll with a 3/8” to 1/2” nap roller.
    • Recommended film thickness: 8-16 mils per coat.
    • Recoat after 8-10 hours or as soon as the first coat can be walked on.
    • Sand lightly if the recoat window is exceeded.

Special Considerations

  • Cold Conditions: Slower curing below 50°F. Use the Fast Set version or accelerators for faster results.
  • Hot Conditions: Accelerated curing above 85°F. Mix only what can be applied within 15-20 minutes.
  • Chemical Resistance: Resists a wide range of chemicals, including acids, ethanol, and motor oil.
